80/20 Rule

6-Minute Sunday (Issue #10)

Hey friends,

I don’t know what to write, so I’m sharing a small lesson I read from the book I’m reading recently; Eat That Frog! It’s called the 80/20 Rule.

In 1895, Vilfredo Pareto determined the society to contain two types of people. “Vital few“ are the top 20% of people in terms of Money and Influence. “Trivial many“ are the bottom 80%. He later discovered that this rule applies to pretty much anything.

All of our tasks can be divided into two types.
1. Vital few - top 20%
2. Trivial many - bottom 80%

If we have 10 tasks to do in a day, two of them will have a very high order of importance. Those two tasks will have a big impact if get done properly and in time. All of those tasks will take same time to do but one will have a very big impact while the other won’t. So recognise that task and prioritise doing that at first.

You have to always put most of your time and energy into getting that “Vital few“ getting done properly and on time. You can allocate the rest of your time for the “Trivial many“ if there’s any time left.

This is such a short and simple issue this week.

This week I’ve listened to this amazing pod by MFM. Have a listen 🎧.

See you next week. Bye 👋
